The problem

Browser games are spread across thousands of small sites. Many are slow, cluttered or unclear about what is free and what asks for a download. A player wants to find something to play, start it at once and understand what they are getting.

The brief was a games portal that loads quickly, groups games the way people look for them and explains itself in plain language.

What we built

A fast game grid

The home page opens on a grid of the most popular games, ordered by popularity, with a search bar at the top.

Categories people recognise

Puzzle, racing, mini games, multiplayer, runners and more, each ordered by popularity.

Games that start in seconds

Every game is HTML5 and loads inside the page, so there is nothing to download or install.

Clear game pages

Each game page lists its controls, so a player knows whether it suits a keyboard or a touch screen before starting.

Plain-language help

Short guides explain how to play, what “free” means on the site, how the categories compare and what to know before playing.

Licensing discipline

Gameziko does not host unlicensed copies of games owned by other companies. Its FAQ points players to free alternatives in the matching category instead.

How a visit works

  1. Pick a game. Browse the grid, open a category or search by name.
  2. Press Play now. The HTML5 game starts in the page within a few seconds.
  3. Keep going. Many games save progress in the browser on the device being used.

Design and engineering choices

HTML5 only

Games run in the browser, so one catalogue works on desktop, phones and tablets without apps.

State how the site is paid for

The site says plainly that games are free and that ads may appear before or between rounds.

Respect other people’s licences

The catalogue leaves out licensed titles it has no right to host.

Write for people who ask questions

Pages answer the questions players actually type, such as how to play without a download or whether progress is saved.
